Tampa Bay to Sarasota, FLORIDA

So how has your fishing been? Hope its been as good as ours! The snook fishing is as hot as the weather is. Last week Capt. Shawn and I had some incredible snook days on the flats. This July is turning out to be much better than last years, especially for big snook. I have been catching snook in the 34 inch class nearly everyday and a few much larger. Last week our best day produced a pair of 30 inchers, a pair of 34 inchers, a 35 incher and we lost one in the 37 to 38 inch class. We also had many smaller snook in the 6 or 7 slot size.

We are finally starting to see good numbers of reds, some bulls, mostly slots. The red fishing should only get better from here on. August and September are traditionally the best time of year for sight fishing for redfish in the 30 to 40 inch class. This is a great opportunity for conventional and fly tackle alike.

We are still catching a lot of keeper trout, its not to hard to go out and catch nice keeper size trout in a few hours. Most of the fish are holding in 5 to 8 ft of water.

As for offshore fishing, the we are still catching plenty of little tuna, Spanish mackerel, a few kingfish and a few permit.

The real fun offshore right now is putting a whole Spanish mackerel or tuny on your line. Its almost a guarantee you will have a 100 to 600 lb Jew fish on before it hits the bottom. Whether you ever get him to the surface or not is purely luck.

So if you are planing a fishing trip to our area, snook should definitely be first on your agenda, the time to get a trophy is now! Live bait and light tackle is definitely the choice bait for snook in the month of July. So if you are ready to catch the fish of a lifetime on 10 lb test line give us a call.

Hope you have enjoyed the report, if your interested in an enjoyable day of fishing give us a call.

See you on the water!

Captains Matt and Shawn
