Tampa Bay to Sarasota, FLORIDA

     Tarpon Tarpon Tarpon, and they're still holding on strong. Tarpon fishing is still good to excellent, I'm interested to see what kind of showing we get after this full moon. I had one particular morning this past week with some regular clients of mine that was truly unbelievable. Tim, Mike, John and Erik had the opportunity to experience tarpon fishing at its finest. This particular morning they got to experience the thrill of having 2 doubles and 2 triples on tarpon. That is right, triples (three tarpon on at one time), and they managed it twice in one morning. What was even more amazing is that the smallest fish would have gone no less than 130 Lbs. That is a big tarpon, especially when you have three of them jumping around the boat at the same time. I swear the only reason we only had three of them on was because I had only 3 fisherman on board, that's how fast the action was. That was my best day this past week, overall tarpon fishing faired pretty good and we only had one day that we didn't manage to get a tarpon in the boat.

As for other fishing we had some great snook fishing this week. No monsters, but I really have not been targeting big snook. We have been targeting numbers after successful morning tarpon fishing. The snook have very little pressure on them at this time and are very willing to eat. My partner Shawn Crawford has spent most of his days chasing snook this past week and he had a couple of 40 inchers boated, nice trophy snook!

I've also been spending many of my afternoons offshore and we have been killing the fish out there. Lots of little tunny, as many as 15 in a couple hours. Countless Spanish mackerel, a few kingfish, a few nice size sharks and of course some giant Jewfish (the largest of grouper). Most of the Jewfish we are catching are between 200 and 400 pounds. These guys will bring a grown man to his knees, they are absolute awesome to look at when finally whipped and brought to the surface.

Lets hope this tarpon fishing holds out to the end of the month, I plan to spend this week chasing them. There are no worries if they don't though, we have plenty of good fishing available right now.
